Although not a roman catholic, I wish the Pope well on his 25th anniversary. He has provided strong, if sometimes controversial, leadership of the roman catholic church in difficult times. People of all faiths, and none, are wondering : "Where goes the roman catholic church in the next 25 years?" .

The site contains a truly amazing amount of information in most major languages. Includes most major documents of the Catholic Church for the last century.

This is an invaluable site not only for Catholics but for anyone that wants to know what Catholics believe and practice. BUT, it is definitely very detailed and advanced, especially for a person who may want to research a particular church aspect or issue. (My advice is to start with other sites like Catholic Answers and then go deeper with the official Vatican resources). Check out the News area, especially the Vatican Information Service: many would be amazed to know the impact the Church has in the world every day.

Tasteful, artistic, and generally easy to navigate, the 2000 year-old institution of the Vatican does a fabulous job of reaching the masses via cyberspace. Seekers and the curious can read the Vatican web pages in six languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese, although not every page is available in Portuguese. There is a HUGE amount of information on the Vatican and Catholicism, including: the biographies and writings of popes in the 20th century to the present, biographies of the saints, visitor information to the Vatican, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the entire Bible accessible by sub-section. Two helpful features for finding the information you seek are search engine (on the site map page), where you check off the language you're searching in and the site map itself. There may be a bug or two on the website though because clicking on the link to Vatican Radio took me back to the home page. Also, I'm not sure what their distinction is between their link categories of "latest" and "news." I did not find every answer I sought at the Vatican website--for example, I wanted to find out the history of the Papal robe: for example why John Paul II wore usually white, but wore a robe tinged with green when he visited Fidel Castro, yet his body was displayed in a red robe. Still, I found the equivalent of a detailed encyclopedia on the Vatican and Catholicism. While the website could stand to be tweaked here and there, overall, they've done a remarkable job of presenting volumes of information.

Athough not a roman catholic, I wish the roman catholic church well, on the election of Pope Benedict XVI as the new pope. He "has a hard act to follow", given the dynamic leadership of Pope John Paul II. People of all faiths, and none, are wondering: "Where now for the roman catholic church?".
