Facebook User says: With over 50,000 articles in all languages, and more than 22,000 in English, Wikitravel is easily one of the largest collections of collective travel advice on the web. Articles on major tourist destinations is usually very comprehensive, while there are many basic stub pages for small unknown destinations, at any rate it's easy to improve those as the site uses the same setup as Wikipedia. Each month two good articles are selected as "Destination of the Month" and "Off the beaten path" which are excellent for sofa travelling. One of the sights greatest problems is that business owners can add themselves, and give their businesses rosy descriptions with little root in reality, though in general, the site is well moderated.

Wikitravel is a project to make Open Source, up-to-date travel guides. After 3 years, the project has over 10,000 English guides in various states (over 16,000 in all languages). Some are so good ("star" quality) that they're a fitting replacement for a "traditional" travel guide. Others are a work in progress. There's still a lot of work to be done; world is huge and there is so much to say about it. Anyone can contribute to this project -- with just a few words you can change someone's travel experience for the better. Working together, we can make guides that are accurate and up-to-the-minute. What I like best about Wikitravel is the hundreds of volunteers who work so hard to make high-quality guides for other travellers. Being a part of that team has been one of the most satisfying parts of my life as a traveller and as an Internet user.
