In an era of ever increasing Internet crime, from identity theft to sexual predators, the dating marketplace cannot be presumed to be immune. What True.com is doing is the safest response to today's realities. If their felony background checks and marraige status verification prevent fraud, or more importantly, prevent one rape or murder, then they are a success. It's a noble cause and simply the safest thing to do.

This website uses unethical techniques to lure you into subscribing. I filled out a profile with very little information other than my location (New York). Soon thereafter I "magically" started receiving emails from women (claiming to work for True but also having an interest in me) even though they knew nothing about me. It's also strange that they were all from Texas and each email came exactly one week apart! What a scam! I'd love to think that just because I live in NY all women from Texas are interested in me but that's just a dream. Bottomline: Why would I receive four emails from four different women all living in Texas when I live in New York and my profile contains no significant data about me? These profiles are not real and if they are, they're being used unethically to persuade non paying members to subscribe. This behavior is unexceptable especially from a site that is all about honesty.

I am a member of several sites, including one other paid-for online dating site. I attempted to try this site in the 1 day trial period, on a Sunday night. I filled out the information, and it appeared at the time that the site offered your standard 24 hour trial. I filled out a complete profile, and completed the tests provided by the site. The personality test was mostly good, but came up completely wrong in a couple of areas (I presume it is overly sensitive to some questions). A little disappointing but not too bad. I then attempted to match people in my area. While the search mechanism is better than average (still with some annoying flaws) What absolutely did not work for me was the "Are you compatible" comparison. Of 20 people apparently I am completely incompatible with all of them. This I found to be unacceptable (especially for a pay site) so I called to cancel (still Sunday night). The message I get over the phone states that the service center is not open on the weekends. So I decide I will call again on Monday well within a 24 hour limit. The service agent, is less prepared then I am to handle the call. Upon asking about the policy she states that "Sorry, your trial has expired, you have already been billed". I state the availability situation. She agrees to check the phone record to see that I did indeed call the previous night. This checks out. She then states "While you called last night, the hours of operation were in the terms and conditions" My complaint is that while many of the options were labeled "free" on the weekends there is no physical way of actually getting them for free. Is it just me or does this smell of false (misleading at the least) advertising? The level of expertise of their service, the faulty program, and misleading service have made this service stand out as focused solely on your paycheck, not actually making the experience work. This sort of profiteering, off of Love no less, is one of the worst violations of morals I have ever seen. My advice: Buyer beware this site
