Wikinews is an open-source news source, where anyone can edit the news. This doesn't mean the news is random graffiti, either. Or highly opinionated political extremism, either. They're doing a remarkable job of taking Wikipedia's NPOV approach and applying it to the news. Facts are required to be backed up with links to sources, so you can check up on the story and see if they really got the facts right. It's still a very new project, but if recent history is any guide it looks like they will grow from being merely useful to a part of everyone's online life.
