Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Opportunities for kotaku.com

Queries that provide opportunities for this site to advertise through Search Engine Marketing (SEM) to get more traffic. They are popular queries that are relevant to the site, and have low competition in search engine marketing. Learn More Many sites are actively advertising in search engines for the most valuable search queries. This high level of competition tends to result in high advertising costs, which makes it difficult to find attractive advertising opportunities. These opportunities may still exist, however, by looking at the "long tail". The long tail contains search queries with lower Query Popularity, but such queries also tend to have lower QCI. By advertising for many of these queries, sites may still be able to manage an effective search engine marketing campaign. Note that not all queries on the long tail may be very relevant to this site, but this list may contain a number of strong advertising candidates.

About kotaku.com (in its own words) Quoted from kotaku.com's About Us and similar pages.

Earlier this year, Kotaku began running its reviews under a unified template that was designed with a trio of key components in mind. First, there would be no alphabetical or numerical review scores. Second, reviews would be focused on delivering the most critical information in the most efficient way possible. Third, they should be fun to read and hopefully foster conversation about a game's positives and negatives. ... About - Kotaku

Comments: I've had a love/hate relationship with Kotaku for a few years now. At first I liked it, because it's a good looking site with a talented staff. Then I started noticing some questionable things like demoting commenters who disagree with certain articles, incredibly biased perspectives in news stories, and the plethora of non-gaming posts that are obviously aimed at 12 year-old boys. I can only speak for myself but I don't really think that pictures of mostly nude women or irrelevant posts on Japan just because one of their writers lives in Japan, have any place on a gaming blog. Kotaku is an attractive site with a couple decent writers but if you have a voice and you're looking for a site where that voice can be heard rather than punished for speaking your opinion, go somewhere else. For gamers, Kotaku can only loosely be considered a gaming blog, there are far better options out there that offer news without having to sift through some halfwit writer's opinions.

Comments: Kotaku is a superficial, sensationalist blog with lots of advertisements disguised as 'news' and scantily clad Japanese women, trying to rope in some readers. The design is poor, it's very difficult to find anything beyond the newest articles, and they treat their users (or 'peasants') with a complete and utter lack of respect, as seen by the Gawker password leak. If you are going to use Kotaku, I strongly suggest not registering for an account. If you do, you should probably use bogus information, including a password and email address you don't use anywhere else.

Comments: Gawker can go to hell. Kotaku used to be a good site, now it's a heaping pile. They post their usual amount of stories still but now at least 50% aren't gaming related or have a very tenuous link at best. Kotaku needs to get back to it's roots or people will start leaving. I for one will not be returning to this site again, not that they will care.
