Comments: The main author Robert Spencer shows how Islamic militants and sharia activists draw upon Islamic doctrine to motivate and justify their actions and policies. Since the Islamically motivated aspects of terrorism, gender inequality, persecution of non-Muslim minorities, threats to free speech, and so on, tend to be downplayed via the editorial policies of most mainstream media, JihadWatch (JW) fills a much-needed role in informing readers of these Islamic aspects. JW tends to be right-wing and Judeo-Christian partisan. It would appeal to a wider audience if it were less partisan.

Comments: Robert Spencer, the creator of Jihadwatch, is a self proclaimed "expert on Islam" (despite having no real credentials) who has written several islamophobic books inorder to extract money from his fellow bigots. He has no credibilty. He disagrees (to a great degree) with every reputed scholar on Islam, on both the right and left of the political spectrum, from Bernard Lewis to Edward Said. Without getting into specific examples (of which their are many) he qoutes part of a passage from the Qu'ran while ignoring the words before or after, greatly changing the meaning. He also has called the massacre and rape of thousands of Bosnians a "genocide-that-never-was". Apperantly denying a genocide that targeted Muslims is morally acceptable to Spencer. Someone who has simply read the Qu'ran (not just a few select sentences) can write a whole book refuting the claims Spencer makes. The ex-nun Karen Armstrong, a legit and objective expert on Islam, has this to say about Spencer's propaganda... "When discussing Muhammad’s war with Mecca, Spencer never cites the Koran’s condemnation of all warfare as an ”awesome evil”, its prohibition of aggression or its insistence that only self-defence justifies armed conflict. He ignores the Koranic emphasis on the primacy of forgiveness and peaceful negotiation: the second the enemy asks for peace, Muslims must lay down their arms and accept any terms offered, however disadvantageous. There is no mention of Muhammad’s non-violent campaign that ended the conflict."

Facebook User says: Blatantly speaking, Robert Spencer and most of the people who visit the site, are Islamophobic. Therefore, their views will be negative about Islam, and are corrupting other peoples' thoughts while making themselves feel better by bashing Muslims. From what I've seen, they're using Muslims as a scape goat, and attempt to humiliate and insult anyone who thinks otherwise.

zu says: If you like propaganda, a la Goebbels then this is the site for you. Robert Spencer comes off as a bitter, upset and determined hater of Islam and Muslims. What is surprising is his claim of objectivity and that he does not hate Islam or Muslims. If you do spend some time on the site and start to comment beware that you will be quickly targeted for attack by the plethora of rabid commenters that sit on the site all day. The substance of the site seems to be to take things that some Muslims say or do and then extrapolate from a preset conclusion that it is a reflection of Islam. Many times the incidents he discusses end up being a mangling of Islamic texts, a misrepresentation of facts or an obfuscation of them. This and Spencer's support for European Fascists is one of the reasons why his former ally Charles Johnson at Little Green Footballs has condemned him.

This site gives the best analysis of what the Jihadists are doing, and also the danger to Western civilization that lurks among us. Is that fearmongering? Test it out yourself. Go down to the local mosque and utter some blasphemies about Muhammad, and carry a sandwich board with a cartoon to Muhammad on it. Yes, this is something better left to the professionals, meaning that your free speech rights have been curtailed since only forty years ago in America people would freely speak their mind about Islam and Muhammad. No more.

It is clear Spencer has no grasp of "sampling", or he would realize that a small sample does not equal a representative sample. Yet Spencer is clearly trying to portray these impressions as a general "Jihad", as evidenced by the title of his website Does Spencer's tactics mean that I should consider the hate comments of extremist christians, celebrating the deaths of hundreds upon hundreds of people, as typical of what Christians think?
