I was an advertiser on bankrate for a few years. Their fees to advertise for mortgages are EXORBITANT to say the least. Unless you get a multi-state package, they constantly kick you off and prefer the larger lenders, who pay them thousands more. These lenders' rates are NOT regulated, and they regularly lie about what is available to the public. They will say they have a "quality control" program, but it is designed to keep the small mortgage company in check while they allow the larger companies, or companies that give them more revenue, to consistantly post rates that are not even available in the marketplace to generate calls. It's amazing they get away with it. RARELY is a rate on bankrate the actual rate you will get. Classic BAIT and SWITCH.

After reading a bankrate article on CD-ladders that was a great idea for increasing my rate of return from CDs in a rising rate market, I searched bankrate for the highest rate and opened up 5 CD accounts. It was a great investment decision to make. I come back to bankrate for their articles on saving money, different types of mortgage options, and their calculators.

Does Bankrate.com - Supports Misleading Advertisement? In my opinion - yes. Try to get a good mortgage rates - call to few companies there - almost nobody will offer the rate and closing costs they advertise. This is most misleading place for mortgage advertisement I ever seen. Will not reccomend to anyone to use.

I found Bankrate through the Wall Street Journal, which publishes their rates, and I can't say enough good things about them. Bankrate articles taught me how to shop for a CD, what questions to ask a real estate agent, how to save on insurance and even whether it's more efficient to drive with my AC on and my windows up. The calculators let me find a house I can afford, and how to best pay off debts. Highly recommended.

I know of no other site that aggregates all available financial products from mortgages to credits all on one site, and then sorts them by their rates or any other major criteria you wish. I found an FDIC insured money market fund offering over 2% interest with only a $200 minimum investment. What a find!!

The "amazing rates" being advertised by their so-called wholesale lenders are not actually attainable. For example, I was quoted a 5.5% 30-year fixed mortage with 0 points. When I called, they were somehow only able to offer a 5.5% 30-year mortgage with 2 POINTS. Lies...what else can I say.
