Comments: Gaiaonline used to be a fun site around 2003. But with time the site changed from a user-friendly environment, to a money-making machine,w here it is close to impossible to have fun on the site unless you spend real money on it. back then there was one set of items you could spend real money on. by now 95% of ALL announcements made on the site are about real cash shop items, or just advertisement for off-site products! The moderatorion of the forums seems almost non-existing as the forums are filled up with spam and sexual explicite content. Reporting these threads or other rule-breakings seems to have little use, it takes months (!) till issues get taken care of. Possibly because moderators ar etoo busy punishing innocent peopel (for example: I got art from their art gallery deleted and moderators claimed it wasn't my art but I had stolen it. They never could tell me what proof they had that the art was stolen, while I could provide them the whole psd-file with all progress in work to prove that it was indeed MY original work. Modreators seem to act at on complete arbitrariness and are not relyable!) The site used to be good, but now it's just a page full of chaos, porn, gore, spam, advertisement and all kind of means to earn the site as much money from their users as possible. Way beyond a level where they would just cover their costs, but strictly profit-orientated.

Comments: GaiaOnline was created in 2003, and ever since grown to a large community. But, lets start out with that this is a PG-13 site, and if your child, under thirteen is attending this site, under a false age then they most definitely shouldn't even be there and 'shame on you' for allowing them to be on. Anyways, moving on. This started out to be an anime site. Virtual dolls, with shops, and shop NPC, who would participate in 'plot line'. GaiaOnline has a fantastic line of artists, developers, coders etc. Not only are these artists very talented, but extremely nice. So, we all thank the artists for making the NPC's, and their shops etc. Though, as this site grew, to now 2010 it's much more vast. Gaia is a forum in a nutshell. One of the nice places to visit, if you're starting Gaia is 'Gaia Community Discussion'. This forum is where you discuss what is going on with gaia. So many things happen around Gaia. Events, EI reports, shop updates, plot updates... All of these forums have rules, regulations and just a little blurb about what the forum is about. So, of course read the rules when you enter the forum and post. Certain forums, have different rules. We all hope that when you join, you'll find your 'home forum'. Other than about the site, the overall attitude of the people there, all honestly vary on the forum you're in. GCD(Gaia Community Discussion) for example, are actually very friendly. While there are other places, like (Chatter Box), where all they do is spam. Is chatting about absolutely nothing, or about Gaia not your cup of tea? Don't worry - Recently they've added on 'Hot topics', as things get popular, they'll make a forum about it! Still, there are SO many more forums that I haven't even BEEN to yet. I'VE found my home. Will you? I bet you will! And I hope you do. I recommend this site to ANYONE. I can't even begin to fathom how much fun people have in this site.

autus says: Gaia Online is a difficult case to explain. Gaia online was created by Lanzer (Derek Liu), originally for Anime-related purposes. The small community it held grew, as did the site. Now, it is one of the most popular Avatar Forums available on the web. It's diverse community and staff makes it an exceptional website, overall. Still, it has its flaws. - + - + - + - The major issue revolving around Gaia is the adult content commonly seen in the forums. Many parents argue that minors shouldn't be allowed to visit the site, claiming that pedophiles tend to stalk around it. While not completely disproving their accusations, over 70% of the users ARE teens. (I've been a user of Gaia since November '03.) - + - + - + - Another issue is one commonly seen on larger forum sites: Poor Moderation. The staff does its best to keep the content and users under control, but with over 1 Million posts being made each day, the staff is stretched thin. Finding qualified users to become staff members is becoming increasingly difficult. - + - + - + - The last problem I can see, (and I find this one particularly humorous), is the mass quantity of accounts, fake E-Mails, and overall false information. Users will create "Mule" accounts to hold items, cheat the "daily chance" system, and perform otherwise-prosecutable deeds. Also, some parents will create accounts JUST to talk to a staff members, (mainly moderators). When the parents don't get the response they expected, they simply "dump" the account. This adds to the problematic userban system the moderators use, as it increases the list of users overall. Roughly 23% of the accounts on Gaia are inactive. - + - + - + - Those are the issues that come to mind. The Gaia Staff is constantly working to better their site, and strive to make it a safer place for everyone, once again. - + - + - + - Overall, 4/5.

It appears innocent on the front by using bright colours, games, dressing up and virtual goldfish to attract young kids. When you get in to the thick of it, it only serves the purpose of adults pretending to be kids in order to groom young naive, vulnerable children into sexual deviancy. Its horrendous. Topics constantly revolve around paedophilia [sexual intercourse with prepubscent children], Necrophilia [sexual intercourse with the dead], Incest [biological blood sexual relations], Bestiality [sexual intercourse with animals], promotion of prostitution, rape, sado masochism and then there is an onslaught of anal, oral, porn and many other issues that is not for teens or kids. Gaia has a very laid back attitude towards these topics and if you complain to them about the content of their site, the moderators ban your account. It is a vile site which leaves me in no doubt that it was created by sexual deviants for sexual deviants with the sole aim of grooming the minds of young influential teens and kids. I vote it the worst website that I have ever laid eyes on. Is Gaiaonline suitable for kids? My answer is definetely NOT, which brings about the question...Is gaiaonline suitable for adults or anyone? My answer to that is yes, but only if you are a perverted sexual deviant who likes to be in constant communication with young kids/teens.I do not know how this site is allowed on the Internet. Horrendous site, absolutely horrendous!!! It also asks kids/teens for their email passwords and phone numbers. Any people that allow pedophiles and sado masochists to interact with children should not be given kids email passwords and phone numbers. Horrendous site run by horrendous people!! I see, by compulsory rules of alexa com, that I must rate it with a star. If I didn't have to, I wouldn't. My true rating is 0/100.

ilovecats says: The forums are pretty good. They have a good reporting system and it moves at a fast pace. They do have some controversial topics that I wouldn't want my young teen to be reading though. I would join just to use the forums I think. If I get bored of them I decorate my profile or avatar. They also have contests of art/etc which are fun to participate in. The games are boring though. I think the best thing to do is browse the site if you like anime or games/discussion on the internet to see if it is your taste.

Gaia Online is not only a webforum, it is an online community. Involving a diverse and fast-paced economy, Gaia is a fantastic outlet for teenagers above the age of 13 to learn the ways of capitalism in a fun and hazard-free environment. The Gaia Online forum itself covers a vastness of topics. The main subforums include General Discussion (anything you'd like to discuss), Extended Discussion (reserved for involved debates), Chatterbox (chat and spam), and the Gaia Community Discussion (reserved for discussion about the various issues of Gaia Online as a community and the storyline). The forums are moderated, I believe, to the best of their ability. There is, however, a variety of content that would not appeal to many parents. Often times sexual topics are brought up in any to all of the variety of subforums. Parents, my advice to you? Talk to your kids about Gaia Online, and explore it yourself first. Make sure it is an environment that you would like your child to spend their time in. One thing about Gaia Online is that it can be immensely addictive, to the point of people sending in their money for "donation letters", which are special items a Gaia user can get by send $2.50 in American money to Gaia. Now, there is nothing wrong with this, but monitor your child's time spent on Gaia. It's always good to make sure that they are doing other activities besides Gaia Online. In a nutshell, Gaia Online is a wonderful online community, for those users that understand the content and its effect on their time.

This a great site, mainly, you get an avi and customize it with items you can buy with 'gold' that you earn from doing... anything on the site. This site is a forum comminity and you can talk to people/ ask advice, whatever! I highly reccoment this site. It's very high quality and fun! (I would know, I've been a member since July 31st, 2004)

Gaia online is run mainly by regular users called mods. while using the site those mods will harras and even stalk users they dont like, or whose opinions they dont agree with; and cause them to be banned from the site with false accusations and false terms of service violations. and during this time the mods are not punished while they commit a rea life crime called cyberstalking as per this website. Working to Halt Online Abuse be very careful when you use the site, and have your parents check it with you cause they do allow these people who are in charge to commit the crime of cyberstalking.

I've been apart of Gaia Online for over two years now, and I've seen it grow and change to suit a certian rating. PG-13. I understand the concerns of the people below, but it is a rating that's world wide. Thirteen and up may go onto this website legally, as judged by the rating. And I know for certain that the Admins and Moderators of Gaia are fair and ensure to the best of their ability to make sure that this forum is Teenage friendly. Issues discussed here are issues that many teenagers will feel curious about, and this is a safe place for them to ask questions (Of a PG-13 nature), discuss their worries, and to meet other people their age. Because this is a forum, with over twenty subforums with different topics, each with hundreds of topics moving at any given moment, it is designed so that if a person feels uncomfortable with something, or sees a topic that is against the Terms of Service that all have ot sign, they do have to contact a Moderator. But Moderators don't ignore people, and they do take complaints seriously. If a thread's topic is unsuitable, it does go. And people do get frozen from the site if they break the rules outright. But complaints are handled well, and I've seen all the Moderators I know look for evidence of a complaint. This is a really rewarding place to go, especially for young Artists and Writers, and for teenagers. A lot of emphasis is placed on something called 'Roleplay', where people create their own characters and write long stories with other people in topics. And Artists are encouraged to draw characters, or to draw the avatars of each person. There's always someone ready to guide Artists or Writers when it comes to bettering their skills. And for teenagers who are curious about subjects, which don't just include sex, they can also include religion, life issues, politics, science, and so on- there are people who will answer honestly with a sense of the required PG-13 in the site. There are adults in their twenties at this website as well, but they are bound to the same rules and requirements as everyone else. And most adults I've seen are more than willing to aid teenagers with writing, art, problems in life, school problems, anything that they need. Almost like Mentors. This website does NOT allow any sort of Cyber Sex to happen. Anyone who joins with that intent is banned from the website. And from my experience, it really is a nice place to be. ^_^ I'm twenty now, and when i joined, I found that it really helped me. I could ask questions I was too embarrassed to ask others about, without anyone laughing at me. And I made friends from all over the world, some as young as 13 and some up to 30. It is a really nice community. I also found my English marks going up a lot because of the Role Playing, because I found it was fun to make my writing and grammar better, so that the over all story we created was good. And my artwork became a lot better too, I discovered a lot of neat tricks that can't be learnt on your own! If still in doubt about allowing your teenagers joining this site... Parents are welcome to join too! There are 'guilds' that are adult and parent only, (Still with the rating. :P) so that adults can meet other adults here for friendship and talk about things in common.

Gaia run by nothing but selfish bastards. I had been on their site since 2003 even went to their booths at conventions and they had my account banned two months ago for something I did not do and have they not replied to any of my emails. They claim that they value customers but they couldn't care less about them. Many other innocent members have had their accounts banned as well but the staffs have made no effort in listening to them. This place is a big waste of time since they don't care about what you have to say.
